How to Get Rid of Stubborn Acne

What is stubborn acne?

Stubborn acne is a type of acne that appears abnormally.

Acne is a common sign of puberty or teenagers. It may last for a few days. However, you can still suffer from acne when you are older than 20. Sometimes, the acne does not go away even when you have tried some treatment methods at home. You should see a dermatologist after 4 to 8 weeks trying remedies.

Treatment

When you go to see a dermatologist, they will check your skin condition first. Then your dermatologist will discuss with you to design a suitable treatment program. Some medications may be recommended, such as antibiotics, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid. These medicines are taken orally or topically applied to the affected areas.

If your acne is more severe, you may need to use isotretinoin. This medication can treat nodular acne (cystic acne) when other treatments such as benzoyl peroxide do not work. If you are pregnant, you should not use this medication. There are also other treatments in which you do not need to take drugs. Light therapy combined with vacuum therapy, or laser treatment are some treatments you can consider. However, they are effective but expensive. You should think carefully before choosing.

Care at home

Skin care for acne is also important to prevent the progress and recurrence of the problem. Self-care at home can also help promote the effects of treatment.

  • Keep your skin clean but do not wash the affected areas more than two times a day. This may irritate the skin and make the acne get worse.
  • Use mild soap and clean water to wash the skin. The water should not be too hot or too cold. Lukewarm is the best option.
  • Do not try to pop the acne. This may make the acne get infected and create large scars.
  • If possible, you should not use make-up while your skin is having problems. Makeup products may block the pores. If you have to use make-up, try water-based or non-comedogenic products. They are better in your situation. And remember to remove make-up as soon as possible. Use specific products for make-up removal.
  • Exercises and diet can also help. They help improve your overall health. Do not let sweat stay on your skin, it is not good for your acne.
  • Remember to wash your hair. Germs from your hair can spread to your skin.

Stubborn acne is hard to control. If you have acne that does not heal after 4 to 8 weeks, you should consider going to see a dermatologist. Special treatments can help you manage your stubborn acne condition.
