The basic travel medical kit

Some items that should be included in a basic kit for city-bound, or short jaunts are

  • Pain pills: For the sudden headache and hangover.
  • Stomach meds. For your stomachache brought about by some street foods and drinks. And for your jet lag.
  • Cold / Flu Med: For weather changing-related issues.
  • Birth control: Preparation is always good. Condoms, pills, or both are okay.
  • Vitamins: For your travel stress, time changes, and public transportation, and your diet.
  • Sunscreen with at least 15 SPF.

The extras to consider kit

  • Antibiotic: For your diarrhea at places with sketchy food and water.
  • Anti-itch Cream: For mild skin reactions and bug bite, especially when visiting mosquito prone destinations.
  • Cipro: The antibiotic of travelers. For a slew of ailments, but only use with doctor recommendation.
  • Probiotics: For your stomach also but this kind doesn’t need to be store in refr
  • Antibacterial Gel: For minor cuts and abrasions when you are at some not-so-hygienic
  • Motion Sickness Tablets: For sea traveling and long rides through the mountainous or bumpy regions.
  • Decongestants: For your stuffy nose.
  • Water purification tablets: For places where you are not provided with enough water.
  • Antimalarial drugs
  • Sedative/sleeping pill
  • Anti-anxiety medication

Some other medical tools that you should put in your kit are band-aids, wound cleaning including alcohol or iodine swabs, gauze pads or rolls, adhesive tape. A small, sharp scissors with rounded tips and tweezers are also necessary.

Tips for packing medical kits

  • Visit a travel health specialist for consultant
  • Opt for tablets over liquids, creams, or gels. Sachets and fat-packed tablets are more highly recommended than tubes and bottles.
  • Consider the size of samples that you will take with you.
